Our Lady of Fátima or, formally, Our Lady of the Rosary of Fátima, is one of the invocations attributed to the Virgin Mary and which had its origin in the apparitions received by three shepherd children in the place of Cova da Iria, in Fátima, Portugal.
According to the testimonies of the three child visionaries, the first apparition occurred on May 13, 1917, at noon, and was repeated during the following six months, always on the 13th and at the same time, with the exception of the month of August, when it occurred on the 19th, until October 13, 1917.
In the last apparition, she identified herself as “the Lady of the Rosary”, and for this reason, the combination of her two titles was made ecclesiastically and gave rise to Our Lady of the Rosary of Fátima. According to the visionaries’ reports, the message that the apparition presented in Fátima was an insistent call for conversion, penance and prayer, namely the prayer of the Rosary.
Its main place of devotion is the Sanctuary of Fátima itself, located in the parish and city of the same name, in the municipality of Ourém, in Portugal.
